Natural Habitats Trolley Tour
Beyond the charming Victorian homes and sandy beaches, Cape May is world famous for its birdwatching, monarch migration, and natural history. Join Cape May Bird Observatory naturalist on this trolley tour to local “natural habitats”, learning about the beauty, diversity, abundance (millions of birds, butterflies, and dragonflies pass through each year), geography, and extensive history of this amazing spectacle. Relax and be entertained in the birding capital of North America! The tour also features a visit to the Garrett Preserve, where guests can capture memories beside the iconic Butterfly sculpture.
As part of the trolley journey, you will learn the delicate art of Songbird Banding during the Early Fall Migration. By the end of the program, you will understand who, what, when, where, how and why songbirds are being banded at The Nature Conservancy’s South Cape May Meadows. Most importantly, you’ll learn how songbird banding is being utilized to inform decisions on conservation policy development, species conservation, and land stewardship initiatives. The program ends with a walk on the South Cape May Meadows new boardwalk trail to spot these migratory birds along the trail!
